SUN PROTECTION & SKIN HEALTH

Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation is associated with approximately 65 % of melanoma cases and 90 % of non-melanoma skin cancers, including basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC).

Scientific research continues to show that the risk of UV-induced skin damage and skin cancer from not wearing sunscreen is significantly greater than any theoretical risk associated with approved sunscreen ingredients.

More information on BCC

UV exposure happens year-round, even on cloudy days. Daily sunscreen use helps protect the skin from sunburn, premature aging, hyperpigmentation, and long-term UV damage.

Broad-spectrum sunscreen helps protect the skin against both UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays contribute to premature skin aging, while UVB rays are the primary cause of sunburn.

Dermatologists generally recommend reapplying sunscreen every 2 hours, especially after swimming, sweating, or towel-drying.

INGREDIENTS & FORMULATION

Our Tinted SPF 50 contains Butyloctyl Salicylate. It functions as an emollient and solvent that helps sunscreen spread evenly, improves the lightweight feel on the skin, and supports zinc oxide stability in the formula.

It is also commonly used in mineral sunscreens as an SPF booster, helping absorb UVB light by converting it into heat.

The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel concluded that salicylic acid and related salicylate compounds are safe for use in cosmetics under current usage concentrations.

More information on our blog.

The Beach Rooster focuses on mineral-based sun protection using zinc oxide as the active UV filter.

Mineral sunscreen sits on the skin's surface to help reflect UV rays. Zinc oxide can sometimes create a visible cast, especially on deeper skin tones. Our formulas are designed to minimize that effect while maintaining strong protection.

everyday use

OCEAN & ENVIRONMENT

The term “reef-safe” is not regulated, so we prefer “reef-friendly.” Our formulas are made without oxybenzone and octinoxate, two ingredients commonly discussed in relation to coral reef concerns.

Some sunscreen ingredients have raised environmental concerns regarding marine ecosystems. Choosing mineral-based formulas and practicing responsible beach habits can help reduce environmental impact.

Oxybenzone and octinoxate are common UV filters used in many sunscreens. In recent years, some studies have raised concerns about their potential environmental impact, particularly on marine ecosystems and coral reefs.

As a result, places such as Hawaii have introduced restrictions on sunscreens containing these ingredients.

The Beach Rooster formulas are made without oxybenzone and octinoxate and instead focus on mineral-based sun protection with zinc oxide.

More information on harmful ingredients.

Yes. The Beach Rooster formulas are Hawaii Act 104-compliant and made without oxybenzone and octinoxate.
