We’ve always believed that sun protection is just one part of a much bigger lifestyle, one rooted in community, passion, and showing up for the next generation. That’s why our relationship with the Hightower Racing Foundation means so much to us.
They’re not just an organization we admire; they’re friends. We’ve had the opportunity to connect with their team and see firsthand the impact they’re making by supporting underprivileged youth in the racing and action sports world. Read our full interview with Danielle and Clarence Hightower below.
1. Tell us about yourselves! How did you two meet and how did you guys come up with your foundation?
We met in college. I played softball and C.C. played football. When we met I had just started surfing professionally, within a year we both ended up riding for the same brand. Me for surfing, and him for BMX racing. When we had our first child I had to take a year off of competing which resulted in me losing my ranking on the QS. That same year was a large shift in the industry. I tried to work my way back up, but professional surfing was not as lucrative as it previously was and it did not make financial sense to continue. C.C. continued to pursue BMX racing, and team management, and I moved to the corporate world. After our fifth child was born we decided that I would take a run at surfing professionally again, and I have been working on it ever since.

2. What inspired you to start this foundation?
My husband and I both come from humble beginnings, so we understand the barriers many families face when supporting a child’s passion. I worked weekends with my mother to help pay for surf competitions and equipment, while C.C. began working at age 12 and often rode his bike two miles to race BMX.
We were fortunate to have friends and family who supported our dreams, and that inspired us to give back. We created this foundation to address the financial barriers that keep many children from underserved communities out of extreme sports like surfing, BMX racing, and motocross. Our mission is to provide access, opportunity, and support so youth can pursue their passions, build confidence, and thrive.

3. What gap did you see in the action sports community that needed to be filled?
We noticed that many participants in extreme sports are either fortunate enough to live near their sport of choice or have the financial means to travel and compete. As a result, there is an incredible amount of untapped talent being overlooked. These sports also have the power to change lives for the better by building confidence, discipline, and purpose. Representation matters, and we hope to help change that landscape so that someday any child who watches extreme sports can see someone who looks like them or comes from their neighborhood succeeding in that space.

4. Can you share a story about a kid whose life has been changed through your foundation?
Last year, we raised $1,000 to support rising motocross rider Amari Arnold, helping him compete in the prestigious Loretta Lynn's motocross race. He delivered a strong performance, which brought him valuable exposure and led to new sponsorship opportunities as well as upgraded motorcycles. This year we will be handing out monetary scholarships to some very deserving hard-working athletes.

5. How can people support your mission?
We are truly grateful for any and all support. Whether through monetary donations, volunteering your time at events, sharing our social media posts, or donating equipment such as bikes and boards, every contribution makes a difference.
All support goes directly toward helping children in underserved communities gain access to life-changing opportunities in extreme sports.
